How to Make Fresh Blueberry Tea Hot and Iced

Fresh Blueberry Tea is a delicious tea that packs an antioxidant punch. Made with fresh blueberries and a few simple ingredients, it is great for a cozy afternoon curled up on the couch. You can also make it iced and enjoy it on hot summer days on the patio.

I pick my own fresh blueberries each summer from the forest near my home. The wild blueberries are smaller and sweeter than the store-bought berries, but both types can be used to make tea or any other blueberry treat you enjoy.

You can freeze the berries to use all winter long, or you can purchase frozen berries to use in this recipe.

How to Make Blueberry Tea

Ingredients:

Fresh blueberries

2 cups water

White sugar or other sweetener (or to taste)

Fresh lemon juice (optional)

5 tea bags of your choice or more if you like stronger tea (black tea, green tea, white tea, or herbal tea are great choices)

5 cups of water

Fresh mint leaves (optional, for garnish)

Instructions:

1. Rinse your blueberries thoroughly. In a small saucepan, combine the blueberries and water. Bring the mixture to a gentle boil over medium heat, then reduce the heat and let it simmer for about 10 minutes.

2. After simmering, mash the blueberries with the back of a spoon or a potato masher to release their juices.

3. Strain the mixture through a fine mesh strainer into a jug or bowl, pressing the berries to extract as much liquid as possible. Discard the solids.

4. Stir in the sugar and lemon juice to the blueberry liquid. The lemon juice adds a zesty flavor and enhances the absorption of antioxidants. Adjust the sweetness to your liking.

5. Brew your choice of tea in a separate pot according to the instructions. White or green tea works wonderfully with the subtle flavors of the blueberries.

6. Discard the tea bags, pour the hot tea into the blueberry mixture, and stir well.

 7. Serve the tea hot and garnish with mint leaves and lemon slices for a touch of freshness.
