Ingredients for Golden Chai Latte

The basis for a golden chai is the traditional masala chai. The spices are the same with the addition of turmeric which gives it that golden color.
Spices: Cinnamon sticks, cardamom pods, whole cloves, turmeric root, ginger root, black peppercorns, and star anise. If you are not a fan of any one of these spices, you can leave them out or substitute them with something else. Nutmeg is a good choice.
Turmeric must be combined with black pepper to activate the anti-inflammatory compounds, so you should try adding at least one or two peppercorns.
Tea: Black tea bags or loose-leaf black tea is usually the tea used for golden chai. If you want a caffeine-free tea, try using your favorite herbal blend or rooibos tea.
Milk: Frothed milk adds creamy flavor and aesthetic appeal to golden chai. Full-fat milk is best for frothing, but you can substitute plant-based milk such as soy or oat. (Note 2 and 3)
Sweetener: Honey, maple syrup, stevia, or other sweetener to taste
Vegan Option
Replace milk with soy milk, almond milk, oat milk, or any plant-based milk
Use a plant-based sweetener like maple syrup or agave nectar
Caffeine-Free Option
Omit the black tea bag and use a caffeine-free

Instructions
Infuse Spices: In a small pot, combine 2 cups of water, cinnamon sticks, cardamom pods, cloves, ginger, turmeric, star anise, and peppercorns. Bring to a gentle simmer over medium heat and let it steep for 5-7 minutes.
Add Tea: Add the tea bag or loose-leaf tea to the pan, allowing it to steep for an additional 3-5 minutes.
Turmeric Time: If you are using powdered turmeric, add it now. Stir in the turmeric
Strain and Serve: Remove the saucepan from the heat and strain the liquid into your favorite mug.
Sweeten: Add your preferred sweetener and stir until fully dissolved.
Froth the milk and add it to your cup. (See note 2)
Garnish with star anise and a sprinkle of cinnamon
Note 1: You can substitute turmeric powder if you don’t have fresh turmeric. About 1/2 tablespoon should be enough. You can add more or less to your own taste.
Note 2: If you don’t have a milk frother that heats your milk, you can heat about 1 cup of milk on the stove over medium heat. Heat just to the boiling point, and then use a handheld frother to froth your milk. Frothing isn’t absolutely necessary. Hot milk is just fine to use.
Note 3: You can enjoy this golden chai without milk if you prefer. Just follow the same recipe and omit the frothed milk.
